1996    wood, steel, lead, gold leaf, pelt

*

‘Sol’ is suspended from the ceiling and mounted on a stainless steel rod. The axis is off-centre, and insde ‘Sol’ is counterweighed with lead. (see Sol Archive) The visitor to the exhibition was encouraged to give ‘Sol’ a spin. Due to a set of ball bearings, it will move almost endlessly, but its off-centre motion is somewhat erratic.

‘Sol’ has a gold leaf bright side, and a black pelt covered dark side. It refers to heraldry.

Traveling knights used to bundle up their belongings in two shields, strapped together back to back.
